Pictorial Diagram. A pictorial diagram uses pictures to represent the different components of a particular system. Pictorial charts are used to compare the number of units, size or progress using icons.

For population comparison statistics use a chart with columns in the form of manikins. A pictogram, also called a pictogramme, pictograph, or simply picto, and in computer usage an icon, is an ideogram that conveys its meaning through its pictorial resemblance to a physical object. The Pictorial diagram shown below shows a landing gear for one wheel of a light airplane used to convey boxes to a receiving table.

In fact it shows the visual appearance of the circuit in real time. it cannot be used to understand or troubleshoot the actual circuit and for this reason alone, it is not commonly used.

Some diagrams may have realistic pictures to make the various components easier to identify.
